Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission/North Central Association to award the degree, Master of Sciences in Biomedical Sciences. This degree program, offered through the College of Biosciences, prepares students for careers as research associates in major laboratories as well as providing a background to succeed in advanced programs in the healthcare professions, including medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine. Douglas R. Rushing, Ph.D., serves as dean, and Robert E. Stephens, Ph.D., as associate dean, for KCUMB's College of Biosciences, which opened in 2004.
The Master of Science Degree in Biomedical Sciences may be pursued as either a one-year or two-year program. The one-year program includes coursework in the following disciplines: Anatomy, Biochemistry, Biostatistics and Epidemiology, Cell Biology, Genetics, Histology, Neuroscience, Physiology, Research Design and Ethics, and Research Instrumentation and Methodology as well as preparation of a research paper. The research paper will include a comprehensive literature review along with a detailed proposal for original research.
